Winter inverse lake stratification under historic and future climate change

چکیده

Millions of lakes inversely stratify during winter. Seemingly subtle variations in the duration winter stratification can have major ecological effects by, for example, altering vertical distribution oxygen and nutrients lakes. Yet, influence climate change on has been largely unexplored. To fill this knowledge gap, here we used a lake-climate model ensemble to investigate changes from 1901 2099 across 12,242 representative situated throughout Northern Hemisphere. By end 21st century, is projected shorten by an average 18.5–53.9 d under Representative Concentration Pathways (RCPs) 2.6–8.5. Projected are faster warmer geographical regions, which 35–69% will no longer 2070–2099 RCPs This shortening loss likely numerous implications lakes, including misalignment lifecycle events causing shifts biodiversity.

Preserving the world second largest hypersaline lake under future irrigation and climate change.

Iran Urmia Lake, the world second largest hypersaline lake, has been largely desiccated over the last two decades resulting in socio-environmental consequences similar or even larger than the Aral Sea disaster. To rescue the lake a new water management plan has been proposed, a rapid 40% decline in irrigation water use replacing a former plan which intended to develop reservoirs and irrigation....

Modeling Current and Future Potential Distributions of Caspian Pond Turtle (Mauremys caspica) under Climate Change Scenarios

Although turtles are the most threatened taxonomic group within the reptile class, we have a very limited understanding of how turtles respond to climate change. Here, we evaluated the effects of climate changes on the geographical distribution of Caspian pond turtle (Mauremys caspica). We used an ensemble approach by combining six species distribution models including artificial neural network...

Climate Change Quarterly : Winter 2017

Climate models robustly imply that some significant change in precipitation patterns will occur. Models consistently project that the intensity of individual precipitation events increases by approximately 6%–7% K−1, following the increase in atmospheric water content, but that total precipitation increases by a lesser amount (1%–2% K−1 in the global average in transient runs). Some other aspec...
